What the experts think

“The DVD is excellent. You must be very proud and rightly so of this accomplishment. Thank you for letting us see it. You must have had an excellent and very professional crew to make this. It is on a par with anything I have seen produced here at the DfES. This is rarely the case when we have media material submitted to us.

Hundreds of schools are using our courses to bring about change and enhancement. Here is just one case study…

Managing The Lunch Hour at Haxby Road Primary School
I became Head Teacher of Haxby Road Primary School in September 2003. It had significant behaviour problems, a large proportion of which manifested at lunchtimes, and a lunchtime supervisory team that was keen but not fully trained. At that time, Haxby Road was officially one step away from 'serious weaknesses' as designated by our LEA.

We purchased AMBIT'S Managing the Lunch Hour in November 2003 and started using it in January 2004. It provided the structure and impetus to encourage the lunchtime team to identify specific problems and create solutions. We found the scenarios relevant and stimulating and the format of the course ideal for promoting ongoing discussions about both general and specific issues.

These resulted in changes, some minor and others fundamental, in the behaviour of the lunchtime staff and to the procedures and practices that we use to manage the lunch break.

In June 2004 Haxby Road was inspected. The school had moved to a ‘satisfactory and improving’ rating and Ofsted made specific reference to a positive ethos at lunchtimes. This was an excellent result, not only because it demonstrated marked performance improvement but also because it was a well deserved pat on the back for the lunchtime team. Both the children and the lunchtime team now enjoy the long break far more than they did and the supervisors also find their role easier and more satisfying.

Managing the Lunch Hour played a significant role in helping us improve our lunchtimes, thereby contributing to enhancing behaviour overall and the ethos of the school as a whole. I would strongly recommend the course to any school wishing to improve lunchtime behaviour and management and enhance teaching and learning in the afternoons.
